Spitbank Fort

Location : Spitbank Fort or Spitsand Fort or even Spit Fort is located in the Solent, just off the coast from Gosport and Portsmouth in Hampshire. I captured this sunrise image from the shore in Gosport. The fort was started in 1861 and was completed in 1878. Spitbank is smaller than the two main Solent forts, Horse Sand Fort and No Man's Land Fort. Its main purpose was defense against ships entering the Solent. Spitbank has now been renovated for use as a small luxury spa hotel and retreat with 9 bedroom suites.

This image was shot using a tripod-mounted Canon 7D camera and a Canon EF 100-400mm f/5.6 IS L lens set to 320mm. I used one shot AF and locked on the fort. The camera was set to manual exposure mode, f/8, ISO 100 and the shutter speed was 1/125th of a second. The RAW processing and the final adjustments were all done in Photoshop CC.
