Thrift on Freshwater Bay

Image Location : sunset behind Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight.

Freshwater Bay is a secluded natural bay cut in the imposing white chalk cliffs, with stunning views out across the English Channel and along the beautiful western coastline of the Island.

Armeria maritima, commonly known as thrift, sea thrift or sea pink, is a species of flowering plant in the family Plumbaginaceae. It is a compact perennial which grows in low clumps and sends up long stems that support globes of bright pink flowers.

This image was captured at sunset, using a hand-held Panasonic Lumix G9 camera with a Leica G Vario 7-14mm f/4 lens set to 7mm (equivalent to 14mm on a full frame camera). The lens was focused on the far Thrift on the edge, and the camera was set to aperture priority at f/11 with 1/60th of a second exposure at ISO 400 with daylight white balance. The RAW processing and final adjustments were all done in Photoshop CC.
