Rufous-tailed hummingbird

Image Location : captured on the Photography Workshop in Costa Rica.

I think this is a Rufous-tailed hummingbird, there were so many types of hummingbird there and I have so many images of them to still sort through! I did not take flash equipment with me so the image choices I have are of them sat up like this or hovering but with blurred wings, I will have a hovering example to show you next but will not swamp my feed with all the species I captured. It was great fun to see and photograph them.

This image was captured in the afternoon, using a hand-held Panasonic Lumix G9 camera with a Leica DG 100 - 400mm F/4.0-6.3 lens set to 400mm (equivalent to 800mm on a full frame camera). The lens was focused on the hummingbird and the camera was set to aperture priority f/8 giving just a 1/200th of a second exposure at ISO 1600 with daylight white balance. The RAW processing and final adjustments were all done in Photoshop CC.

The lack of light under trees was always an issue there so I had set the camera to Auto ISO with the upper limit of ISO1600, which I am quite happy with.
