11th-century castle of Crozant

Location : Castle of Crozant, Limousin, France.

The castle stands on a rocky spur overlooking the confluence of the Creuse and the Sédelle rivers. Its defensive location on a long narrow outcrop has earned it the nickname "key to the Limousin". This is the ‘local’ castle less than three miles from our photography workshop base in Les Marronniers and it is my favorite morning spot. I had to study the maps and hiking the trails to find this overlook facing into the sunrise.

This image was captured at about 7:00am just as the sun was rising above the hill. I was using a Panasonic Lumix GF6 with a Lumix G Vario 35-100/F2.8 lens set to 40mm. I used autofocus on the castle. The camera was set to Aperture priority 1/800th of a second exposure at f/5.6, ISO 100 and daylight white balance. The RAW processing and final adjustments were all done in Photoshop CC.
