Poppy @ Sunset

Location : West Gomeldon, Wiltshire. The technique used on this image was to shoot with the lens wide open to limit the depth of field, focus on the poppy and throw the sun out of focus. This out of focus sun background can be said to have a pleasing bokeh (the aesthetic quality of the blur). The 200mm telephoto lens gives you a larger sun and a narrower depth of field.

This image was captured at sunset using a tripod-mounted Canon 5DmkIII camera and a Canon 70-200mm f/4 L zoom lens set at 200mm. I used live view at x10 to manually focus on the poppy. The camera was set to manual mode; wide open at f/4, ISO 100, daylight white balance, and the exposure was 1/60th of a second. The RAW processing and the final adjustments were all done in Photoshop CS/6.
